About Michelle

I’m Michelle, and I’m inspired by color and artistry, creativity and restoration..anything that is tansformed into a new creation. I’ve had a life-long love for creating with color and clothing. I’d been on a search for vibrant colors and coziness when I realized that vintage quilts brought these two things together.

They unite all the things I love: beauty, history, color, comfort.. and they bring me back to the love of my own family. Growing up, I saw my mom at her happiest when she was sewing or quilting. Given these stressful times we’ve all seen in the world the last few years, I wanted to find a way to connect with her again and bring that joy back into our lives.

I use found quilts in my process, quilts that I’ve been collecting for years. Upcycling is so important because we reduce waste sent to landfills, while encouraging creativity within set parameters. Upcycling brings new life to materials, and provides a new lane for economic growth, contributing to a circular economy.

One of my greatest joys in this life is the gift of giving gifts; what better way to express my love for others by wrapping them in beauty and the love and care that the women who made the quilts put into them. By making these upcycled garments and giving them to others, we get to re animate these quilts, giving them a second life, when they otherwise could’ve been locked in a drawer or stored away in some dusty attic. I feel like this new form for these fabrics honors the women who made them and the love, unending love they had for their families. Many of them used whatever remnants they had from feedsacks to old suiting or dress fabrics to make these quilts that provided necessary warmth for their families. I am so moved by the time, love and warmth these creations have provided, and I just know that they have to live on, not forgotten in storage.

I want these garments to touch homes all over the world, and provide the warmth, joy and love I feel from them, to all people; to children, those less privileged, those orphaned, those homeless… to anyone who may feel lonely or broken, I want these garments to give them hope and encouragement that everyone matters, and that everyone is deserving of love and care. It’s my wish that this message is at the heart of everything I do and everything that I create.
